Message to Libraries from Marty Kahn, ProQuest CEO

Get a copy of our Stimulus FAQ for librarians by clicking here... Finally, after years of school library media center reductions—there's good news.

The new federal Economic Stimulus Act (ARRA) includes billions of new dollars of funding for K-12 education.

ProQuest has created new tools to help you tap these funds—but hurry, you need to act today (no later than June 10, 2009 in most cases!)

Stimulus funds are targeted primarily for disadvantaged Title I LEAs (state tables) and Enhancing Education through Technology (EETT), but there are opportunities for all schools. You can check the ALA site for program details and state-specific recovery information at recovery.gov. In addition, according to Education Week, states and districts will face stiffer data reporting requirements to get a share of new federal education aid.

Libraries work. But, your challenge is to lobby for funding not specifically allocated to library resources.

April Update: Learn more about what other librarians around the country are asking about the purchase of library digital teaching and learning solutions (ProQuest) commonly known as databases. MDR Marketview presented a webinar on the Education Stimulus for all their vendor customers. ProQuest has summarized the webinar Q & A (with MDR permission) especially for librarians who are interested in ProQuest solutions. Our new FAQ for Librarians on the Education Stimulus and ProQuest Resources is the result; get your copy today.

Connect to Funding
Libraries looking to access funding must address the priorities of the school leaders who will manage these new funds, including Title I Coordinators (or equivalent) and Tech Directors (EETT).

Compelling rationales will frame your library's resources as "education solutions" that address the major education reforms that challenge schools today, and for which they are actively seeking solutions, including: ProQuest is here to help. Get library stimulus funding advice from ProQuest...

We have created a new guide and FAQ document that are specifically designed to help you:
  1. Learn more about stimulus funding that can be applied to your library and read how others have been successful in securing dollars

  2. Discover the high-quality ProQuest solutions that best address stimulus funding priorities
Our tools can help you craft a message that will capture attention as school leaders make decisions on the use of stimulus funding.

We also offer a newly updated funding guide (April 2009 | PDF) to funding digital library resources with traditional grants and other funds, which includes in-depth advice, studies, and more.

ProQuest recommends three solutions that best address the six school leader priorities listed above and emphasized in the stimulus Title I (Reading and Literacy) and EETT (Technology Integration) criteria:
