Quote of the Month
"I wish I knew about the online resources like ProQuest, SIRS, and eLibrary where you can search a topic and get an enormous amount of articles on whatever you are researching. I just found out that [Joel] Barlow had these on their website last week!"—M. Brennan (Source)

SIRS Knowledge Source Lesson Plan
H-1B Visas & American Workers
Unemployment remains stubbornly high and the disappearance of the American middle class have both become a midterm election issues.
One of the problems that may contribute to both is the expansion of the H1-B Visa program. The H-1B visa program allows skilled immigrants to work in the United States on a temporary basis. It allows American companies and universities to hire foreign scientists, engineers and programmers.
Students: Who are some of the largest proponents of H-1B Visas and what industries do they represent? What are the arguments for the H-1B Visa program to import foreign workers? What are the arguments for curtailing the H-1B Visa program made by proponents for American workers? What is your recommendation to address this controversy and why?
SIRS has the answers. Start here!

Summer is one of our busiest seasons here at ProQuest headquarters. After talking with teachers and librarians at recent national conferences, we set to work making our central proquestk12.com support website easier to use and revised a number of items, including:
Handy Home Page: You said our home page was too busy. We agreed! The new entry page is cleaner, clearer, and offers an interactive calendar for our free web training sessions and live @ProQuest Twitter feed. Give it a try, and let the new large images scroll to see what's new.
Standards-Linked Lessons Plans: Revised for 2010! Developed by experienced educators with subject-matter expertise, these activities have been aligned to national standards and developed for four grade levels and four subject areas. Activities now address all of our major databases, making this a must-download set of free lesson plans.

SIRS Spotlights & Challenge Quests
National Hispanic Awareness Month is an annual celebration of the culture, traditions, achievements and heritage of Hispanic Americans.
SIRS Knowledge Source helps researchers learn more about
notable Hispanic Americans and trace Hispanic culture's unique impact on the American experience
in this month's Spotlight of the Month.
Did you ever wonder why Americans carve pumpkins for Halloween? About 2,000 years ago, an Irish legend developed about a ghost who was forced to wander the earth while holding a lantern.
Our SIRS ChallengeQuest asks:
According to the legend, what was the name of the ghost who roamed the earth?
