Spring 2011 Latest updates, tools, and tips from our team A few days ago, our development team brought several important enhancements live within your subscription. These changes make finding critical content inside ProQuest Essentials much easier, and allow you to share direct links to specific publications and individual articles with anyone, anywhere. We've also made it easier to manage your My Lists, and fixed a few minor bugs to boot. Also this month, we'll show you how to set up custom search widgets to ferret out specific types of content, and more! ProQuest Essentials Link to any custom collection of content with one click. Our editorial team has created thousands of topic-specific Essential Pages for you and your students. These custom collections appear at the top of the most often employed search terms, and contain classroom- and research-ready content, including articles, images, video, Flash multimedia elements, and more. ![]() Last week's release added a special button to the Publications tab which connects users right to the entire ProQuest Essentials collection. Now it's easier than ever to get to the very best content in our vault! Click it and explore today. Direct Link to any publication or article Share links with colleagues or students, will function from anywhere. Starting today, you can access any publication or article, copy/paste its URL, and embed it in your documents, lesson plans, webpages, and more. These are "durable links," meaning that they won't stop working, and will directly connect users to this content without the need to conduct a search or supply a list of directions (type this keyword, click this title, etc.) This is a critical upgrade that will make it easier than ever to create reading lists, lesson plans, and populate any research output with direct links to specific content in your subscription. You'll only have to conduct a search once, copy a set of URLs, then share them with anyone in any format—even your website. ![]() The easiest way to grab the durable URL for a publication or article is to right-click on it with your mouse, then select Copy Shortcut. You may then paste the URL into your item. Here's a few popular publication links to get you in the spirit: THE Journal, New York Times, Newsweek, and even Getty Images (by Event). My eLibrary Saved Lists: Articles You can now delete documents from any Saved List. Until today, it was necessary to delete an entire Saved List in your My eLibrary account in order to remove one or more documents. ![]() Now you can click our handy Delete Document icons to remove readings one at a time. Note that you'll first need to login to your My eLibrary account, then open a previously saved My List collection for the Delete Document icons to appear. Fixes & Tweaks Our developers are always fine tuning your subscription! Behind the scenes, you'll notice that the MLA citation for eBooks has been corrected, and the link to browse Getty Images is up and running. Also, we installed a new translation software package to power this popular feature. Enjoy! Looking for eBooks? Maps? Newspaper articles? Custom Search Boxes = Research Success It's always a good time for a reminder about an important tool that can drive serious usage of specific content within your subscription. For instance, did you kow that we offer an easy tool that allows you to make custom search boxes that can drive researchers directly to magazine, video, map, and ebook content, plus more? Here's how it works. Head to our search widgets page, then click on your subscription (eLibrary, eLibrary CE, etc.). ![]() Follow the directions, then select the type of search box you'd like to create. The pull-down menu lets you create a custom box that searches specific content types within your subscription, from newspapers to books (including ebooks!), images to audio and video clips. Click create widget, and follow the directions from there. Pop it onto your webpage, and you've instantly made it easy for your staff, administration, and students to directly search for specific content. Essential Page & Content Picks Our editors have done the hard work. They've combed the vast content stores available inside eLibrary, and found the very best resources connected to hundreds of the most popular queries made by K-12 students.
