Winter 2011 Looking back, forging ahead... At ProQuest, we've continued to invest in technology and content throughout 2010. This includes the recent release of the all-new ProQuest platform. We've re-imagined the way to discovery... to finding, creating, and sharing knowledge. Our ProQuest platform isn't the only resource we've enhanced in 2010. In recent months, the eLibrary team has added:
One Year Ago @ eLibrary Multimedia
Haiti Earthquake (2010)
The report includes open access to our CultureGrams PDF reports for both countries, available for a limited time. Essential Page & Content Picks Our editors have done the hard work. They've combed the vast content stores available inside eLibrary, and found the very best resources connected to hundreds of the most popular queries made by K-12 students. These content collections are only available inside eLibrary, stored on our Essential Pages. Here's a trio of the best of our most recent additions, as shared by our editorial team. Simply conduct a search in eLibrary for each title and you'll see the Essential Page at the top of your search results. Easy!
One of the most-accessed Essential Pages in December was Cyberbullying. A runner up? Seismographs. eLibrary Lesson Plan State of the Union—Clinton, Bush, Obama
President Obama delivers his third State of the Union address to Congress, the American people, and the world on January 25.
Based on the accomplishments of the "Lame Duck" session in December, the speech will probably be optimistic, with the recovering economy a major focus. With the advent of the revolution in communication technology and the Internet, billions of interested people all over the world will likely see the speech live on TV or later in other ways. State of the Union Messages to the Congress are mandated by Article II, Section 3 of the United States Constitution which states, "He shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the state of the union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient." Among the many precedents established by George Washington was clarification of the phrase "from time to time." Since 1790 State of the Union messages have been delivered regularly at approximately one year intervals. ProQuest has created a BookCart learning activity to help your students learn more about the history and the policies of government during the period of 1998-2000—"State of the Union--Clinton, Bush, & Obama." "I wish I knew about the online resources like ProQuest, SIRS, and eLibrary where you can search a topic and get an enormous amount of articles on whatever you are researching. I just found out that [Joel] Barlow had these on their website last week!"—M. Brennan, Student @ Redding, CT "We Love eLibrary: ... Used for general research and our annual spring survey always shows it is #1 favorite by faculty and students for general research. Can't say enough about SIRS: Love the Top 10 Box, A-Z list and Yes-No Topic Information boxes, they are awesome! Thank you for sharing why CultureGrams is so special! My student library worker just walked in and said "Hey, we used CultureGrams last hour..." Thanks for caring about our school kids and making your products so teen-user friendly!" —S.
