United Nations Day: Government Comparison
October 24 is United Nations Day. The United Nations is an international organization devoted to maintaining international peace and security.
Explain to students that the United Nations is an intergovernmental organization, but the governments of countries within the United Nations take on many different forms.
Grades 9-12 Learning Activity
Using the CultureGrams World Edition (login), ask students to identify different types of governments found across the world (parliamentary democracies, constitutional monarchies, presidential-legislative democracies, monarchies, one-party states, and military regimes).
Discuss the pros and cons of each type of system.
What impact does government structure have on aspects such as General Attitudes, Religion, Economy, Communications, and Education?
Have students read CultureGrams reports for Libya, Myanmar, and Vietnam to see how those governments influence their people in different areas of life.
Repurpose our newest library toolkit to get students into your media center— online and in the real world!
