Preserving Our Environment
These April celebrations are dedicated to preserving and advancing our environmental and ecological systems—Earth Day is April 22 and Arbor Day is April 24, 2010. April is also National Garden Month.
Earth Day Network (EDN) is the action group that implements the vision of Earth Day as it reaches the mature age of forty this year. EDN operates on the premise that all people, regardless of race, gender, income, or geography, have a moral right to a healthy, sustainable environment. Its mission is to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide, and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle for promoting a healthy, sustainable environment.
They pursue the mission through a combination of education, public policy, and consumer activism campaigns. The campaign and programs are grounded in the belief that an educated, energized population will take action to secure a healthy future for itself and its children.

Keep America Beautiful
April provides the explosion of growth in trees and plants that marks the end of the winter doldrums. A series of celebrations of environmental preservation and beautification efforts occur in April—Earth Day is April 22, Arbor Day is April 30, and all of April is National Garden Month.
Each of these campaigns helps to organize millions of volunteers who are dedicated to the war on litter, energy conservation, and community beautification through nature. Many of the volunteers have been and will be students. This is a great opportunity for teachers to provide students with both an academic and practical lessons in environmental science.
