Conservative vs. Liberal Solutions

During the Presidential campaign, President Obama presented his solutions to the problems of our country and the world through the perspective of a liberal (also known as progressive), which is generally associated with the Democratic Party. John McCain presented his solutions from the viewpoint of a conservative, which is generally associated with the Republican Party. What's the difference between these viewpoints on addressing social and economic problems of the U.S. and world?
Activity
Students should write a report of at least 100 words or a presentation of at least two minutes that cites at least two sources and addresses the following essential questions for critical thinking:
  • How does liberalism propose to solve at least two problems that you care about?
  • How does conservatism propose to solve these same problems?
  • Which solutions do you prefer and why?
