Presidents' Day is celebrated on the third Monday of each February, in honor of George Washington's birthday. Many students across the United States observe this national holiday, also called Washington's Birthday, by learning about the history of past presidents--especially Washington and one more notable leader.

Botanist and humanitarian George Washington Carver was born into slavery around 1961. His owners supported his pursuit of education, and he attended elementary school, high school and college and eventually accepted a research and teaching position at Tuskegee Institute. Many of Carver's scientific realizations and innovations remain significant today, including crop rotation, soil enrichment and conservation.
Carver is considered the first developer of industrial products from agricultural materials. He created hundreds of products, including bleach, glue and rubber, from such plants as peanuts, sweet potatoes and soybeans.
This movement began to flourish during the 1930s. What is this field of study called?
