How can Earth & Space Science CourseCarts help students and teachers?

Most science textbooks are six-years old before being replaced. That's a long time to rely on static science information and relevant issues. How can science teachers overcome the limitations of traditional textbooks to provide current information and also enrich the major topics outlined in the course of study? eLibrary Science CourseCarts can help science teachers and students to stay current in both science content and exploring related issues.

What are CourseCarts? They are collections of BookCarts created by ProQuest editors to correlate directly to textbooks that are used to teach science courses. Now science teachers have an easy way to enrich and update any major topic they teach through inquiry-based learning. The first in this series of eLibrary Science CourseCarts focused on Biology.

The newest set of CourseCarts focuses on Earth & Space Science. The 30 models in this CourseCart collection provide both content information and relevant issues related to that content. Each has more than 30 current articles and websites. Each includes an easy method for students to find additional resources when appropriate by searching from within the CourseCart. These searches are limited to teacher-selected publications that ensure all results are limited and relevant. In this way, CourseCarts can always be up to date.

Even more important, each CourseCart has a template for teachers to customize it as a lesson plan for students. Teachers can type in student directions, end-of-chapter critical-thinking questions, and even create a quiz. Here's the current list for Earth and Space Science.

You can copy this CourseCart collection, the one for Biology, and almost 100 other science models from ProQuest Carts collection (learn how.)

• Logon to the eLibrary Science Teacher Edition to access BookCart Editor.
• Click the BookCart Admin link below the Search box.
• Click the ProQuest Carts tab.
• Review the Folders on the left and click Earth Science CourseCarts--eLibrary Science.
• Click the Copy Icon in the Actions column for the first title.
• Return to My Local Carts.
• Repeat this process for each of the CourseCarts

With editing, each CourseCart can include information that students can use to complete the assignment (example: write a report of at least 150 words that cites at least three resources and addresses each of the essential questions listed).

To edit the BookCart for your students to use:

• Click the new BookCart Title with the prefix "Copy of".
• Delete "Copy of" and then type your first and last name in the Author boxes.
• Type any brief and specific directions for your students to use in the Description box.
• Scroll down and click Save.
