SIRS Discoverer Solution Updates
Biography for Beginners, by Favorable Impressions

ProQuest is continuing to add new, premier titles to SIRS Discoverer, including established and peer-reviewed publications, respected by librarians.

Earlier this year, we alerted you to the addition of Biography for Beginners, by Favorable Impressions. Having established an esteemed reputation for creating outstanding reference publications, the Favorable Impressions titles display a high level of care and commitment, and each publication is reviewed by Advisory Boards comprised of school librarians, public librarians, and reading specialists.

On the heels of Biography for Beginners: All Authors and Biography for Beginners: Presidents, we have added another title in this acclaimed series. In Biography for Beginners: Inventors, students can read about the personal and working lives and accomplishments of such notable inventors as Alexander Graham Bell, George Washington Carver, Thomas Edison, Wilbur and Orville Wright, and others.

Expect to see more Biography for Beginners titles added to our elementary and middle school solutions in 2008.

Famous Faces from TIME

Check out TIME's collection of primary documents in Famous Faces from TIME. Newly added titles include Famous Faces from TIME: People of Color and Famous Faces from TIME: International Leaders.

Teachers can access and use original TIME magazine covers from 1925 to the present, to help students discover history. Profiles help students read for understanding, increase vocabulary, and raise global awareness by making personal connections to the world around them.

Also be sure to review Famous Faces from TIME's teacher resources, accessible via the articles Worksheet: Creating Your Own Profile and Worksheet: Famous Faces. Access biographies and primary documents, and learn about the lives and works of such notables as Louis Armstrong, Kofi Annan, Diego Rivera, Luis Munoz Marin, and others in this acclaimed title.

National Geographic Extreme Explorer

In addition to adding established and peer-reviewed reference publications; we're always investigating reliable and trusted material for kids -- content that is editorially selected and age-appropriate.

Following the recent additions of National Geographic Little Kids and National Geographic Young Explorer to our wealth of unique titles, is National Geographic Extreme Explorer Magazine. Brand new for 2007-2008, NG Extreme Explorer is specifically designed for striving readers in grades 6-8+, and engages and motivates the most reluctant readers. Fascinating stories and outstanding visuals engage students as they develop literacy skills.

NG Extreme Explorer includes such features as:
  1. Specific reading strategies highlighted before each article.

  2. Exciting science and social studies content to keep students motivated as they read nonfiction text.

  3. Standards-based content to match curriculum.

  4. Text features and highlighted words to build academic vocabulary.
Each issue includes a comprehensive Teacher's Guide with additional teaching strategies.

Complete titles from NG Extreme Explorer found in SIRS Discoverer include Snake Seeker, Hurricane Hunter, and Bog Bodies.
eLibrary Elementary Solution Updates
ProQuest is continuing to add new, premier titles, including established and peer-reviewed publications, to eLibrary Elementary.

The call for full-text books remains animated. New titles continue to be added each month to eLibrary Elementary, joining many other non-fiction books already in the solution. New features to our recently loaded books may include tables of contents, glossaries, article links, images, maps, timelines, and valuable primary documents.

Our collection remains a valuable resource, and may be just what you need for your non-fiction and reference content. Research shows that these titles are classified as grades 6-12, or as Young Adult, in such well-known publications as Booklist and School Library Journal, both of whom also describe many of the titles as valuable resources.

Additionally, our Reference Desk provides everything young researchers need to begin the research process. Users can create marked lists, and view, print, or email any document or image in one easy step.

For a complete list of eLibrary Elementary's reference and non-fiction holdings, visit the Books feature.
