Health Awareness, Powered by eLibrary
For most Americans, the debate in Congress and among our presidential campaigners about solutions for universal health care and the State Children's Heath Insurance Program is second only to the debate on the Iraq war.
This national and state focus on health awareness provides the essential real-world connection that students need to explore a variety of health issues this month.
November also includes many themes that encourage students and adults to learn more about disease and disease prevention:
- AIDS Awareness
- Diabetes Awareness
- Lung Cancer Awareness
- Alzheimer's Awareness
- Child Safety Awareness
- Osteopathic Medicine
Activity
Assigning mini-research activities is a proven way for students to learn beyond our traditional textbooks. Textbooks are seldom current, but ProQuest learning resources like eLibrary, SIRS, and CultureGrams always are.
ProQuest has created a collection of more than 50 model BookCarts inside your eLibrary subscription that focus on health issues. These BookCarts make it easy for educators and students to save time and ensure great and relevant results in reports and presentations.
Each of our ready-made BookCarts provide hands-on examples of essential questions for critical thinking. Teachers may want to add their own when they copy our models and adapt them for their students. The examples provide guidance for students in using original thought, rather than just presenting raw facts in their reports.
Teachers will also be able to add pathfinders for correlated print resources, their favorite websites, student directions, and an optional 10-question QuizCart--all the information that students will need to complete a mini-research assignment.
Here's a sample of health issues-related BookCarts:
- HM12--Life Extension and Reversing Aging
- HM08--Genetic Testing (MS/HS)
- ST11--Stem Cell Research (MS/HS)
- Cancer Research--Prevention and Cure
- Genetic Diseases
