What's better than an apple for the teacher?
November 11-17 is American Education Week. Teachers of today have so many more challenges to deal with in educating students than they did just two decades ago: violence, attention deficit syndrome, multi-language students, state standards, the Information Age, 21st Century literacy and skills, individualizing instruction, performance-based evaluation, the trend toward learning without textbooks, etc.
Fortunately, technology is now evolving that can help teachers to cope with many of these problems, IF they get quality professional development combined with products that address many of these challenges.
Activity
ProQuest offers teachers THE apple--technology solutions to help them teach more effectively. eLibrary BookCarts are an excellent example of how teachers can move away from traditional textbook learning and toward the benefits of research-proven, inquiry-based learning.
Planning and managing inquiry-based activities has become much easier and less time consuming using eLibrary BookCarts and QuizCarts. ProQuest has done the work for you by collecting the best K-12 digital resources and correlated them to state standards and essential questions for critical thinking in a collection of more than 650 models.
Our one-of-a-kind BookCart tool allows librarians and educators to build persistent links to pre-selected content, creating reading lists, subject and topic pages, standards-linked lessons and activities, community interest pages, and even pre- or post-assessments. Each BookCart addresses topics and issues that teachers assign most often to their students--and we've added some new and engaging issues as well.
You can copy and adapt any or all of these for your personal collection. Better yet, teachers can collaborate and share models, helping to coordinate their teaching but still maintaining flexibility.
Here's what Ana Banos (Sweetwater Union High School District) had to say about her experience with ProQuest BookCarts customized for her teachers' major research projects. (Read online.) |
