Who was the famous person celebrated in "Candle in the Wind 1997?"

Princess Diana was killed in an automobile accident, ten years ago this month.

A recent movie, The Queen, compared the reaction of Queen Elizabeth and her family to the British public and most of the rest of the world.

Elton John was so moved by her death that he rewrote the lyrics to his song "Candle in the Wind" to honor the life and death of Princess Diana.

Here is the refrain from the tribute by Elton John:
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall you
Along England's greenest hills
Your candle's burned out long before
Your legend never will
