  Intellectual Freedom Awards
GLMA/SIRS Freedom of Information Award

For more than 25 years, SIRS has been dedicated to the concept of intellectual freedom and excellence in education. To further this concept, we established SIRS Intellectual Freedom awards.

2001
Judi Teston
Burroughs-Molette Elementary School
Brunswick, Georgia

"I thank SIRS Publishing for its continuing support of intellectual freedom. I accept this award on behalf of the library media specialists and faculty members of Glynn County Schools, students, parents and community members who together formed an intellectual community that stood firmly and proudly for the First Amendment during a school board controversy in 2001. Without this community's eloquence and persistent courage to speak out, our students would not have the oppportunity to study established literary classics carefully selected by educators in our school district."
